HRcalendar - Moving HRcalendar to a New Computer

Moving HRcalendar to a New Computer

These instructions apply to Windows XP and Windows 7.

--NOTE-- HRcalendar is not compatible with any operating system newer than 64bit Windows 7. We have no plans to update it further so that it will be compatible with newer operating systems. You will either have to run it on a Windows 7 computer or a Windows 7 virtual machine. We do not support the software on any virtual environment.

We do however offer an alternative to HRcalendar that will function on the newer operating systems. For more details on this alternative, please click the PDF at the bottom of these instructions.

Steps for Moving HRcalendar to a New Computer:

INSTALLATION:
First install HRcalendar onto the new computer. http://updates.gradiencesupport.com/download.aspx?product_id=5

When the web page opens, look for the heading; Download Software and click on HRcalendar.

MOVING THE DATA:
To move your data to the new computer, you have the following two options.

--IMPORTANT!--
If you decide to restore a backup, you must first copy the backup from the old data backup folder and paste it into the new, empty one on the new machine and restore it from there. You can transfer it by pasting it into an external hard drive (USB device) or by pasting it into a network folder. Later, you’ll retrieve this copy and paste it into the new, local Data Backup folder and then restore it from there.

OPTION ONE:
Restoring Data from a previous backup:
IMPORTANT! Backups must reside in the local Data Backup folder on the new computer to be restored.

1.On the old computer, open HRcalendar and click File > Backup.

2.Navigate to the local Data Backup folder. ..

On Windows XP or a 32bit Windows 7:
Go to c:\Program Files\HRcalendar Software\Data Backup and copy the most recent .BAK file.

On 64bit Windows 7:
Go to c:\Program Files (x86) \HRcalendar Software\Data Backup and copy the most recent .BAK file.

3.Go to wherever you just backed up your data and copy the backup you just made.

4.Go to a folder on an external drive (USB device) or to a network folder and paste the copied backup there and then go to the new computer.

5.While at the new computer, plug in your external drive (USB device) or go to the network folder where you pasted a copy of the backup.

6.Copy the backup file once more.

7.Go to c:\Program Files (x86)\HRcalendar Software\Data Backup and paste the copied backup there.

8.Launch HRcalendar on the new computer and from within the software click on File > Restore to get a pop-up window listing the backup that you just pasted.

9.Select the backup and click Open.

10.Close and then reopen HRcalendar to view the restored data.

OPTION TWO:
Copy your data from the old computer and paste it into the new one.

On Windows XP and 32bit Windows 7:
Go to C:\Program Files \ Microsoft SQL Server \ MSSQL.1\ MSSQL \ Data.

On 64bit Windows 7:
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ Microsoft SQL Server \ MSSQL.1\ MSSQL \ Data.

The two files that constitute the database are:

Hrcalendar.mdf
Hrcalendar_Log.LDF

Copy these two files and paste them into the same folder on the new computer
