Gradience version 9 and Gradience version 10 were written before Windows 7, 8, & 10 were available and before Server 2012 and 2016 were available. Consequently, we could not write either of theses versions to be compatible with operating systems that did not exist at the time.
How to [probably] get one of these old versions to work:
Go to C:\ProgramData and create a Gradience folder there. and [then] run the install. This is because on that OS, the requisite ini file (Hrware.ini) must reside at C:\ProgramData\Gradience.
If you don't create a Gradience folder at C:\ProgramData [before] the installation, the install will [try] to place the ini file at C:\Windows.
The software would find the ini file at C:\Windows on XP but the software cannot find the ini file there on Server 2012.
Sometimes the ini file never gets created at all - even at C:\Windows.
In any case, the file [must] reside at C:\ProgramData\Gradience and that won't happen if you do not create the Gradience folder at C:\ProgramData [prior to] the installation on that OS. Even after you successfully install on Server 2016, you must go to C:\Windows and delete any Hrware.gdb you [may] find there.
There [must] only be one Hrware.gdb and it [must] reside at C:\ProgramData\Gradience.
--NOTE-- So far, this is the only way of getting that old version to run on newer operating systems and does not guarantee smooth operation.
Once the installation is done, it will create a new blank database named Hrware.gdb. You will have to either replace it with a copy of your original or you will have to restore a recent backup into the new, blank database.
We have already ended our support on older versions of the software, and transitioned to a self help platform. We recommend that you upgrade your software to the latest version, as it resolves most of the issues encountered on older versions.
The new version will look and feel and function nearly identical to your old version and the new version [should] be able to read your existing data but you must back it up in the old version and then [restore] that backup into version 12. You cannot simply copy-over the database from the old version to version 12.
--IMPORTANT!-- Unlike your old version 10, the licenses for the current version of our software will expire annually. Each license expires at midnight on December 31st. If you fail to renew your license(s) for the following year before the current license expires, you will find that after December 31st, you can expect the following to happen:
- Time-Off will no longer accrue to your employees
- No one may continue to clock in/out in TimeClock
- No further data entry will be possible
--NOTE-- In late 2012, Gradience Records was paired-up with Gradience Attendance. The new software name was changed to Gradience Attendance with Employee Recordkeeping so you would actually be getting two software titles.
Gradience Records shares the same database with Gradience Attendance but has it's own purpose, which is to manage all sorts of HR record keeping tasks such as:
- EEO
- Wages
- Taxes
- Performance Evaluations
- I-9 reporting
- Benefits, such as 401K, Dental plans, Medical coverage, etc.
- Warnings
- Training
- Education
- Accident reporting and more
