Gradience Pro / Enterprise - Solution To: Shortcut to open program, runs the installation instead

Issue: Although extremely rare, it can happen that a desktop shortcut designed to open a Gradience software title will instead, begin the installation process over again.

Cause: When this happens, it is because the desktop shortcut has been set to what is known as an Advertised Shortcut, which checks for any changes, and then runs the installation again. This is strange because we don’t set up the application to do this. Something on your computer must have forced this to happen.

1. Right click on the Gradience desktop shortcut. In this example, we are using the shortcut for FMLA Tracker.

2. Click Properties and look at the Target. If the text inside the target field grayed out? If it is, your shortcut is an advertised shortcut.

3. Do one of the following:

  • In older versions of Gradience: Close-out of the properties window and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Gradience\Common.
  • In the current version of Gradience: Close-out of the properties window and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Gradience\Professional.

4. Right-click on GCore.exe and choose Send to.

5. Click Desktop (create shortcut).

6. From the desktop, right-click on the GCore.exe icon.

7. Click Properties and look at the Target.

  • In older versions of Gradience: It should say what you see in the first b "C\Program Files (x86)\Gradience\Common\GCore.exe".
  • In the current version of Gradience: It should say "C\Program Files (x86)\Gradience\Common\GCore.exe".

8. Enter a space after the quotation mark at the end and add the number below that applies to the software title affected:

  • Attendance: 100
  • Records: 200
  • TimeClock: 300
  • FMLA Tracker: 500.

9. Click OK and delete the original Gradience shortcut.

10. Double-click on the GCore.exe desktop shortcut to open the software.
