Gradience Pro / Enterprise - Shrinking the Database

If your database has photos of employees, it may be possible to reformat the photos as a way of reducing the amount of data.

Click File > Maintenance > Back up Database. Then click the file below (ResizePictures.zip) to shrink the photos contained within the Gradience database. If the process results in any issues, you may restore the backup.

1.Go to where your database file (Hrware.gdb) is located and verify it's size.

2.Please save and unzip the attachment below named ResizePictures.zip to the desktop.

3.Double-click the file to run it.

4.Click Connect > Run.

5.After it is run, close the popup window.

6. Go to where your database file (Hrware.gdb) is located and verify that it is now smaller than when you checked in step 1 above.  

--NOTE-- If you are not satisfied with the results you may restore the backup you made prior to running the Resize Pictures utility.

Restoring the Previous Backup:

--WARNING!-- This will overwrite your current data. Back up your current data so you can to restore later.

• On Vista, Windows 7 or Server 2008: From the desktop, click on your Windows Start button > All Programs > Gradience > Maintenance > Database Monitor.  Enter the same login and password you use for the program. Please be patient. There will be a delay before it opens.

• On Windows 8, Windows 10 or Server 2012: From the desktop, click on your Windows Start  button All Apps > Gradience > Database Monitor.  Another option would be to just start typing Database Monitor into the search field on the desktop. Soon after you begin typing, it should appear. 

When the login screen for the Database Monitor opens. enter the same login and password you use for the program. Please be patient. There will be a delay before it opens.

1. When the Database Monitor opens, click on Restore > Browse.

2. When the Look in popup opens, select the backup from the list or click the down arrow to navigate to the folder where the backup resides. All backups have a date and time stamp.

3. Click on the backup to be restored and click Open.

4. The backup file will appear in the upper field in the Database Monitor.

5. Click Start Restore.

6. Click Yes to the message that appears.

7. To exit, click on File > Exit.
