Gradience Pro / Enterprise - Database Maintenance

Resolve minor errors/performance issues and clear out possible database corruption that can adversely affect software performance.

--NOTE--  This can only be run while physically at the computer where the database resides. You may encounter difficulty trying to run this through a remote tool like RDP. You may however, be successful if you remote directly into the console. Also,  if your HRWARE.INI path= is pointing to the IP address of the server you will need to temporarily change it to localhost as shown below. The HRWARE.INI file can be found in C:\Windows in Windows XP/Windows Server 2003 or C:\programdata\gradience in Windows 7/Windows Server 2008

When should it be run?

Run it any time that the program performs oddly.   If you perform a routine task but get unusual results you may have database corruption.

Why should it be run?

Run this utility to remove database corruption.  A database can become corrupt a number of ways.

One way the database can become corrupt is through an electrical interruption.  We recommend that any workstation running the software be connected to a UPS. (Uninterrupted Power Supply)   An inexpensive UPS will give you enough time to close programs and shut down the computer properly after a power failure.

Another cause of database corruption is when someone who is running a Gradience program or Gradience TimeStation that has been minimized, turns off the computer without first closing the program or the TimeStation.

How is it run?

Do this from directly from the desktop of the computer/server where the database resides. Do not remotely access the computer/server to do this.

1. Have all users at client workstations, close Gradience (not minimize).

2. Click Start, and then just begin typing Data into the search field until you see Database Maintenance appear on the menu.

3. Select it to open it and then click the Start button that appears on the Database Maintenance popup.

4. Click FileExit when done. Ignore any Runtime error you may get.

Consider automating this process...

Yes, if you add a parameter to the shortcut and then write a script or batch file that calls the shortcut for DBMaint.exe. You would add the parameter (AUTO) to the end of the Target line (Create a shortcut for DBMaint.exe, then right click the shortcut and go to Properties. Add "AUTO" to the end of the Target line, such as:

TARGET: C:\Program Files\Gradience\Utilities\DBMaint.exe "AUTO"

Now, when you run the Database Maintenance from the shortcut, it will automatically start the maintenance process.

--NOTE-- Adding AUTO-d will purge deleted employees and will permanently delete employees from the database.
